In a statement, Lieberman said, “We have been waiting with great anticipation for the White House to weigh in on the best way to protect the American people from catastrophic cyber attacks. If the White House is on the same path we’re on, the Senate should be able to approve comprehensive cybersecurity legislation this year.”

  1. With usura hath no man a house of good stone
each block cut smooth and well fitting
that design might cover their face,

    with usura

hath no man a painted paradise on his church wall
    harpes et luthes
    or where virgin receiveth message
    and halo projects from incision,

    with usura

seeth no man Gonzaga his heirs and his concubines
no picture is made to endure nor to live with
but it is made to sell and sell quickly

    with usura, sin against nature,
is thy bread ever more of stale rags
is thy bread dry as paper,
with no mountain wheat, no strong flour

with usura the line grows thick

with usura is no clear demarcation
and no man can find site for his dwelling
Stone cutter is kept from his stone
weaver is kept from his loom

    WITH USURA

    wool comes not to market
sheep bringeth no grain with usura
    Usura is a murrain, usura
blunteth the needle in the the maid’s hand
and stoppeth the spinner’s cunning. Pietro Lombardo
    came not by usura
    Duccio came not by usura
nor Pier della Francesca; Zuan Bellin’ not by usura
    nor was “La Callunia” painted.
Came not by usura Angelico; came not Ambrogio Praedis,
Came no church of cut stone signed: Adamo me fecit.

    Not by usura St. Trophime

    Not by usura St. Hilaire,

    Usura rusteth the chisel
It rusteth the craft and the craftsman
It gnaweth the thread in the loom
    None learneth to weave gold in her pattern;
Azure hath a canker by usura; cramoisi is unbroidered
    Emerald findeth no Memling

Usura slayeth the child in the womb
It stayeth the young man’s courting
It hath brought palsey to bed, lyeth
between the young bride and her bridegroom

    CONTRA NATURAM

They have brought whores for Eleusis
    Corpses are set to banquet

    at behest of usura.

  3. Technology and the Loss of Privacy
    R. Dennis Hansen

    http://ieet.org/index.php/IEET/more/hansen20110413

“I work for a US federal agency. Recently I attended a government-mandated class dealing with the use of computers during working hours. The instructor pointed out that emails that leave our Department’s network are being scanned for content. What they are scanning for was left vague. ”

“Somewhere in the Department is a large bank of computer screens—akin to a NASA control room—that monitors and displays employee computer activities in real-time. It is refreshing to note that even though our agency has a rather primitive computer network (allegedly for security reasons), we supposedly have a very sophisticated snooping system, which is appropriately called “SNIFFER.” This sobriquet alone gives employees the creeps.”

  4. On “Technology and the Loss of Privacy”…

I think it’s good. Federal agencies ought to be spied on, along with the people who work for them. It would be a great way to keep their activities transparent and keep them in line. Only it should be so that the people get to watch the cameras and what they’re doing — not another federal agency. Lol.

  5. I finished “Atlas Shrugged” yesterday. That was a really amazing book, it really made me think and gave me a new perspective. I don’t agree with everything as far as her philosophy goes, but I still really loved it. To me it serves as a warning that more people need to heed, not necessarily people here but in general. It’s actually #4 in the amazon bestseller list and a movie just came out!

  6. Here’s another interesting book:
Change Anything: The New Science of Personal Success
    http://www.amazon.com/Change-Anything-Science-Personal-Success/dp/0446573914/ref=zg_bs_books_26

It has only (25) five-star reviews, books like that are usually really good. I’ve read a couple of other books by the same author and they were pretty good. Those were “The Influencer” and “Crucial Conversations.” I liked the one about conversations better, it was really, really good. I put this new one on my wishlist.

  7. @Lana
Glad you liked Atlas. It’s a great book and a great story. Sometimes I think Rand was a much better novelist than philosopher. Though I am glad she said the things she said.

  8. http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/U/US_ALASKA_FISH_RADIOACTIVITY?SITE=NYMID&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT

    umm hmm?

“ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — Federal and state of Alaska health officials say North Pacific fish are so unlikely to be contaminated by radioactive material from the crippled nuclear plant in Japan that there’s no reason to test them.”

    Well by that logic…

1.)because its so unlikely that a terrorist strike will happen, theres no reason to search people. why cant they apply that logic to things that dont benefit them? lol
2.) its very unlikely that people will abuse power, so we dont need to have checks and balances
3.) its very unlikely that companies will lie about their products, so we dont need to investigate or test monsantos gmo seeds for effect on world crops
4.) its very unlikely that you will die from a gunshot wound, so there is no reason to look for illegal weapons.

I can go on and on…

  9. @happy

I counted 3 veiled threats in there? How about you guys and gals?
The bs that the media put out and people eat up astounds me more and more every day

  10. @AdamNY
Yeah! Starting with “Let me tell you how we’re going to do this…” right after he opened his mouth, and after that the whole body language and everything he said seemed to express that idea.
