Note this is coming to other states.
Confiscations in California by Jennifer Freeman
In 1989, California was the first state in the nation to enact a ban on a specific list of semi-automatic rifles dubbed "Assault Weapons." In 1999, the ban was expanded to include a wider array of semi-automatic rifles. Rifles that possess certain cosmetic features such as a folding stock, pistol grip, or heat suppressor were deemed "Assault Weapons." In order to gain public support for these bans, the California legislature and other anti-gun groups and individuals created a image that the rifles to be banned were more dangerous than ordinary rifles and that the only reason for the existence of such rifles was to commit violent acts on human beings. To this day, many Californians, including those in the media, are under the false impression that an "Assault Weapon" is a fully automatic machine gun. This was a deliberate, yet successful, act of deception orchestrated against the people of California. "Assault Weapons" are not in the same class as fully automatic machine guns which are subject to a separate set of laws altogether. Rather, an "Assault Weapon" is a semi-automatic rifle that fires one round of ammunition for every pull of the trigger but also contains certain cosmetic features which have no bearing on the practical functionality of the firearm. These types of firearms have been commercially available since 1896.
In 2000, the State of California banned the sale of AK and AR-15 rifles, regardless of whether or not they possessed the features required to fall under the "Assault Weapons" ban. People who owned so-called "Assault Weapons" prior to the ban were allowed to keep their firearms as ex-post facto laws prevent such things as retroactive gun banning. The State of California, however, required that anyone who had such a rifle prior to the ban undergo a special registration with the California Department of Justice. This presented a moral dilemma for many California gun owners for the following reasons:
The registration requirement is a blatant violation of the Second Amendment and is therefore null and void;
Compliance with the new law could lead to additional gun bans and abuses of gun rights;
Registration means that the Department of Justice keeps a list of certain gun owners and the semi-automatic rifles that have been otherwise banned;
Firearm registration leads to confiscation.
On July 16, 2006, the Fifty Caliber Institute reported that the Los Angeles County Gun Task Force in CA has begun serving search warrants on residents in that county who are suspected of holding un-registered "Assault Rifles" including 50 BMG target rifles. The task force has confiscated and issued felony charges on at least one individual who was deemed to be out of compliance. If convicted on a felony, that individual will never be allowed to legally own any firearms for the rest of his life.
It is unclear how the Los Angeles County Gun Task Force obtained information that would constitute cause for a search warrant. If the gun owner did not register with the State, how did the County know what firearms were in his possession?
Gun owners across the country should pay close attention to this issue. The County of Los Angeles is taking an offensive position against firearm owners while simultaneously ignoring other laws such as illegal immigration and the myriad of crimes associated with it. The people of California must appeal to Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and the national media. It is obvious that there will be no assistance whatsoever by working within the system of Los Angeles County. Without a public outcry and national awareness, there is no telling how many cities will adopt a similar policy.

Two 'mass media' revolutions converge

President John F. Kennedy's speech against secret societies has been floating around on the internet for some time, but people keep sending it to me so here we go again.

Here are the words spoken by JFK on April 27, 1961,
"The very word "secrecy" is repugnant in a free and open society; and we are as a people inherently and historically opposed to secret societies, to secret oaths and to secret proceedings. We decided long ago that the dangers of excessive and unwarranted concealment of pertinent facts far outweighed the dangers which are cited to justify it. Even today, there is little value in opposing the threat of a closed society by imitating its arbitrary restrictions. Even today, there is little value in insuring the survival of our nation if our traditions do not survive with it. And there is very grave danger that an announced need for increased security will be seized upon by those anxious to expand its meaning to the very limits of official censorship and concealment. That I do not intend to permit to the extent that it is in my control. And no official of my Administration, whether his rank is high or low, civilian or military, should interpret my words here tonight as an excuse to censor the news, to stifle dissent, to cover up our mistakes or to withhold from the press and the public the facts they deserve to know."

Boy, does this one smell!

A Vermont District Court judge has rejected a recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling on the power of police to search a private home, concluding that the state offers greater protections in such cases.
Judge Robert Bent said that under the state Constitution police must knock and announce themselves before conducting a search, even if they have a warrant, or face the prospect that any evidence they find could be thrown out.
The Supreme Court said June 15 that evidence obtained without first knocking could be used at trial, but Bent said that would not apply in Vermont.

Brydon's dramatic escape was celebrated in Victorian print, verse and art. Lady Elizabeth Butler painted a tableau of the injured surgeon staggering towards salvation. The retreat from Kabul was the single worst disaster to befall the British Empire up to that point, but the adept Victorian propaganda machine managed to extract a tale of heroism from the calamity.
According to oral tradition in Afghanistan, however, Brydon was not a heroic survivor but a hostage to history: the tribesmen deliberately let him escape so that he might return to his own people and tell of the ferocity and bravery of the Afghan tribes.

The Congress is delegated the authority to repel invasion by calling forth the militia (which is all of the people), not the Executive. The real goal is hidden from the public. I say this because the border patrol has been begging for assistance for years and the Federal government has ignored them to the point of chaos, and only THEN offered a solution that is unconstitutional and introduces the military into the illegal alien question. It wouldn't be a far stretch to send them throughout the States in order to "help" with the problem.

A wise person once told me that "if you want to see something grow, subsidize it". July 17, 2006 issue - The arrest of former U.S. Army Pfc. Steven D. Green?for the alleged rape of an Iraqi woman and the murder of her and three relatives near the town of Mahmudiyah brought apologies from U.S. officials. But that didn't stem a growing debate over Coalition Provisional Authority Order 17, which exempts members of the U.S. military from Iraqi laws.
Once upon a time when America was in its infancy there were redcoats who would act on orders of the English king and parliament.
Such orders more often than not would violate the rights of the American colonists yet the redcoats would be immune from prosecution by local magistrates... Deja-vu

At any rate, our government and our Establishment remain as cowardly as they were in the 1970s. Look at the great military "triumphs" in recent years ? invading Panama and Grenada, bombing Libya and Serbia, fighting two wars with Iraq. Any general who wanted a triumphal procession in Rome after victories that petty would have been limited to a single cart pulled by a donkey.

At least 40 people, apparently all Sunnis, were killed yesterday by Shia militants in a rampage in a Baghdad suburb - one of the capital's most deadly sectarian pogroms - that revived fears of civil war.

Iraq's insurgents and militias continue to rain terror from Baghdad to Basra, but nowhere in this war-scarred nation of 26 million people does the steady drumbeat of war ring louder than in Ramadi, a city of 400,000 on the Euphrates River and capital of the Sunni Arab western province of Anbar.
Firefights between insurgents and U.S. troops break out virtually daily. Until Wednesday, insurgents had unchallenged control over Ar Ramadi Hospital, which they transformed into a launch pad for attacks. They have entrenched themselves in abandoned buildings surrounding the city's government center, relentlessly attacking Marines based there with sniper fire and rocket-propelled grenades.

There are so many misconceptions about slavery that it takes much research to begin to discover the truth. The story of slavery must be recognized in the context of the time and the context of the cultures around the world that advocated the institution. (Gary Walker's "The Truth About Slavery" is a very good primer). We must learn from the past, stop trying to control others, and move toward the future together, or be dragged down by the past under the threat or persecution for what others have done long ago. In my opinion, if reperations are to be made, they should focus more on the natives of this land who were practically exterminated in a program of actual genocide and thievery of many nations, the destruction of their cultures for the stealing of their land.

The Bush administration admitted that it was conducting warrantless surveillance of the financial transactions of Americans and others only after newspapers exposed the program. According to some Republicans, the solution is to imprison journalists who blow the whistle on government wrongdoing.

The hormone drugs have been banned in Europe for 20 years but they are still used in Australia, New Zealand, the United States, Canada, Mexico and Chile. From this list of countries Britain imports beef from only Australia (4,700 tonnes a year), but it is believed the hormones are used illegally in other countries. The Government has not tested imports for the drugs for the past 18 months.

Coming just hours after an Israeli airstrike blasted offices of the Palestinian prime minister, Olmert's threat signaled the government was losing patience with diplomatic efforts to end the crisis and preparing for a possible escalation of its military offensive.

The second invisible change that has occurred in Britain is best expressed by Simon Davies, a fellow at the London School of Economics, who did pioneering work on the ID card scheme and then suffered a wounding onslaught from the Government when it did not agree with his findings. The worrying thing, he suggests, is that the instinctive sense of personal liberty has been lost in the British people. "We have reached that stage now where we have gone almost as far as it is possible to go in establishing the infrastructures of control and surveillance within an open and free environment," he says. "That architecture only has to work and the citizens only have to become compliant for the Government to have control.

The title of the article is accurate, but the misuse of the term "democracy" in defining the American system of government becomes misleading

AT least 1009 Iraqis, including civilians, soldiers and policemen, were killed in rebel attacks in June, government officials said today. In May the total number of people killed was 1055, according to statistics from the ministries of interior, defence and health.

THE GOAL IS FREEDOM : Kelo One Year Later *Naturally, politicians and planners were thrilled with the Kelo ruling. But it upset lots of people who have no connection to political power; they now live in fear that they could lose their homes whenever local officials decide someone else might put the properties to better (meaning better tax-producing) use. The public outcry scared enough politicians that 21 states enacted limits on the taking of property for economic development. Similar legislation is pending in several others. Being good politicians, however, they left themselves an out by making an exception for "blighted" areas. The term is usually so vaguely defined that in the end it will likely be little or no protection at all.

Is Bush Signing Away the Constitution? *But when President George W. Bush signed the measure into law, he added a "signing statement." The statement said the president can order Justice Department officials to withhold any information from Congress if he decides it could impair national security or executive branch operations.

Shortly before Lennon's death at the hands of what
beyond the faintest glimmer of a shadow a doubt was a
mind-controlled, "Manchurian Candidate" type assassin
deployed by Tavistock/CIA/MI6, Mark Chapman to
terminate a "loose cannon", Lennon had the audacity to
massively and blatantly "out" the aforementioned
consortium in a Playboy interview -- in which he made
note of LSD's completely unforeseen liberating impact
upon human society and civilization--pretty much
thumbing his nose at the whole bunch and their whole
trip; AND indicating as well that he was aware of the
extent to which he and other pop musicians had been
set up--to be used as dupes in massive social
manipulation schemes.

Lennon was not always a darling. Not to his bandmates,
nor to his friends, nor to his wives and sons, nor to
his handlers: "This is the man, remember, who, in
front of a packed dressing room, shouted 'QUEER JEW'
in response to Brian Epstein fussing, 'Now what shall
I call this autobiography of mine?'"

Hallett says Hitler spent February to November 1912
being brainwashed and trained at the British Military
Psych-Ops War School at Tavistock in Devon and in
Ireland. "War machines need war and [that means they
need] funded, trained and supported double agents to
be their patsies, their puppets and their puppet
enemies," Hallett writes (38).
