Engineering Survey

In order to remain within the law you must practice due dilligence in deciding upon a broadcast frequency. The best manner in which to select a frequency is to hire a Broadcast Engineer to do an Engineering Survey. The Broadcast Engineer will use FCC accepted practices to research, locate, and recommend the FM frequency which will be the best choice for your station. He/she will not recommend a frequency that will interfere with the broadcast of any other station.

You can locate a Broadcast Engineer by calling your local commercial stations. It is best that you not reveal the purpose for which you need the Engineer. When you locate a Broadcast Engineer who would like to make some extra money you need only tell him/her that you wish to him/her to research and locate an open frequency for FM broadcast of (X) watts of power. The fee for this service can be as much but rarely exceeds $200.

You must keep all correspondence and paperwork connected with your Engineering Survey. You must insist that the final report of the Broadcast Engineer be submitted to you on in writing, on letterhead stationary, and signed by the Broadcast Engineer. The report must include the name, address, phone number, and liscense number of the Broadcast Engineer. This will aid you in your defense should the FCC decide for some reason to prosecute you at some future date.
